My personal memories are of Bob's kindness, and my political memories are of his skill with a collaborative leadership for AAM, building a very innovative kind of movement that still generates many lessons.
Bob was a person of great integrity and moral purpose. A leader in the campaign to end apartheid for whom it was never about him but the cause and putting values into action. He was against discrimination, inequality and injustice. He was for rights, freedom and democracy. I recall on Bob’s 80th birthday my then MP, the late and great Frank Dobson saying he did not really do heroes but there were a couple of exceptions, one was Nelson Mandela and one was Bob. Bob made an enormous contribution to the Anti-Apartheid Movement and support for the liberation of Southern Africa. He is one of the great heroes of that cause. I am proud I could call Bob a comrade and friend.
Bob was an inspiration. Remembering him with pride and affection from all at ACTSA Bristol
