It was with deep sadness that I learnt of the passing away of Lord Bob Hughes who was our colleague and friend over many, many years. Bob played an outstanding role in the anti apartheid struggle. To many of us who were in exile, he was a beacon of guidance, inspiration and hope. His contribution to South Africa’s democratic transformation will never be forgotten by millions of South Africans. Our people owe him a huge debt of gratitude.
